The following are the departments offering internships
in 2008. The number next to the department indicates the
number of interns that are accepted into that department.

The student intern in the Curatorial Department will research
and write about baseball history and baseball artifacts
to support the curatorial and exhibits programs at the
Museum. A special focus will be the links between baseball
and American social and cultural history. These aspects
will include conducting primary and secondary research
on the history and provenance of museum artifacts, researching
the events of baseball history to find connections with
American culture, and writing up the results of the findings.
Other functions will include writing and editing exhibit
labels, and researching and answering incoming correspondence.

Each year, a different division of the three-dimensional
museum collection is chosen as a primary focus for inventory,
re-housing and condition reporting. On-going artifact
based projects are also available in accordance with departmental
needs and conservation recommendations.

The intern assists the Education and Public Programs Department
with developing and implementing learning programs for
school-age visitors and their families. These "family
friendly" activities are generally for an audience
between the ages of 3 and 12, although many generations
often participate. Must be adept at, or exhibit a learning
enthusiasm for, giving presentations, speaking publicly
and evaluating program results. As such, approximately
half of the intern's time is devoted to education and
curriculum projects, with the other half designated for
participation in public programs.
This position requires energy, zeal, creativity and eagerness
to work with families in a fun, interactive manner. The
ideal candidate will offer experience in teaching, drama
or historical interpretation.

The group sales intern will assist in all aspects of the
Museum's group sales department. Day to day responsibilities
include booking group visits to the Museum, entering reservations
into our ticketing system and sending confirmation and
follow-up packets. As groups arrive at the Museum, the
group sales intern will greet them, direct them to parking
and help them orient to the Museum.

The intern will contribute to the daily operations of
the Information Systems department. Duties will include
but are not limited to Desktop troubleshooting and analysis,
server and network support, backup support for IS staff,
special event support and special technology projects.
Qualified candidates should possess knowledge of Access,
MySQL, Macintosh, PC's servers and Microsoft software.
Candidates should also be enthusiastic and committed to
excellent customer service.

Interns work in the public service area of the Giamatti
Reference Center. They staff the reference desk along
with library staff, and they work on in-depth research
requests which involve searching for, contextualizing,
copying, and delivering documents and information to library
users.

Assist with processing, arranging, and describing of archival
and library materials, adhering to national and local
standards. Assist with making preservation copies of recorded
media materials. Assist with filling customer requests.

The archival intern will assist with processing, arranging,
and describing of archival and library materials, adhering
to national and local standards. Possible projects include
re-housing collections using Re:discovery and identifying
each piece, make additional notes in regard to conservation,
content and artist, cataloging scrapbooks, surveying and
accessing collections for deaccessioning.

The multi-media intern assists with all facets of the
department. Projects include video review of summer for
all interns, updating exhibit videos, assist in video
production projects and special Museum events.

The membership interns are part of the sales department,
helping to bolster enrollment in the Hall of Fame membership
program. Working face to face and over the phone, they
practice salesmanship and learn about the department's
business practices and marketing initiatives. The interns
develop business etiquette and gain hands on experience
in a fast-paced, goal oriented environment.

The Museum Programs interns will be responsible for implementing
programs for visitors. Must be adept at, or exhibit a
learning enthusiasm for, giving presentations, speaking
publicly and evaluating program results. This position
requires energy, zeal, creativity and eagerness to work
with families in a fun, interactive manner. The ideal
candidate will offer experience in teaching, drama or
historical interpretation. Majors in history, drama, speech
communication, museum studies or education preferred.

The photo archives intern contributes to the daily operations
of the Photo Archives in the capacity of photo research,
photo sales, photo collection processing, photo preservation
and conservation, and all other duties associated with
the archives.

Assist Communications Department with daily responsibilities,
including writing for various mediums, production for
publications, media relations, baseball research and other
duties as assigned. Candidate must possess some or all
of the following qualities: enjoyment of baseball, high
energy level, flexible disposition, reliability, good
writing and organizational skills, basic computer proficiency.
Responsibilities include: general office duties, data
entry, contributing to the production of internal newsletter
as well as external publications, maintaining and organizing
PR photo library, assisting in daily programming endeavors,
developing and constructing press kits, assisting in baseball
research, daily media relations and special event management.

Responsibilities include: writing and editing for magazine and other publications projects; archiving and maintaining photo database; distributing images to clubs and organizations; compiling content for use by clubs; assisting with advertising and fulfillment.

The Special Events Intern actively assists the Director of Special Events with the planning and implementation of The Baseball Hall of Fame's biggest weekend; the annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony and its surrounding VIP events for all returning Hall of Famers, newest electees and special guests. The intern will handle the responses of the invitations to all events, offering input on the weekend menu to working with the inductee parties themselves, the intern handles marketing and administrative duties in helping plan a major event, learning firsthand by working closely with senior staff. |
